A professional musician since the age of 13, Mick Archer loves to get his students performing at their best. Whether it’s preparing students to perform “dueling piano” pieces, showing them traditional Irish guitar pieces in a DADGAD tuning, correcting their rudiments on a 5-piece drum set, or giving vocal instruction for theatre productions, Mick has an impressively deep musical background. Because his classical training at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago wasn’t challenging enough, Mick taught himself a wide range of musical styles and instruments before getting his Bachelors in Music & English at the University of Illinois Chicago. He has recently gone back to school for a Masters in Musical Liturgy, to study different styles of religious music from around the world.
His teaching experience is also far-reaching – not only has he been on the faculty of the legendary Old Town School of Folk Music for many years, but also at the City Colleges of Chicago, Guitar Center, School of Rock – Highwood, and the Irish American Heritage Center of Chicago. He’s taught classrooms of kids at Northside Catholic Academy, Most Blessed Trinity Academy, and Mary Seat of Wisdom. He also teaches percussion workshops through a fun & exciting “Mystic Drumz” program.
As a performer, Mick has wowed audiences in Japan, Holland, Germany, Ireland, England, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Finland and Norway. He’s gotten national radio play from multiple songs off his 4 albums of original music. As an opening act, he’s worked with Ray Charles, Jay Leno, Styx and more. He currently performs with his Dueling Pianos act, Blues 88 piano band, Chicago Rovers band (with violinist Edgar Gabriel), and the Mick Archer Trio.
