Committed to a Safe Reopening

Family Piano Co is dedicated to becoming a leader in safety while continuing to provide the community with everything needed to become the greatest musician you can be.

We are closely monitoring the local prevalence of Covid-19 and are taking proven, science-backed procedures to keep everyone safe. These policies will be reviewed every two weeks and some policies may be loosened as local case counts decrease.

Temporary Hours:

  • Monday – 11am to 6pm
  • Tuesday – By Appointment
  • Wednesday – By Appointment
  • Thursday – 11 am to 6pm
  • Friday – 11 am to 5 pm
  • Saturday – 11 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday – 12 pm to 5 pm
Sanitizing: All commonly touched surfaces will be regularly sanitized as often as possible. Extensive, regular cleaning of all surfaces will be carried out by our entire staff often throughout the day. Tried and true bleach and alcohol solutions will be used as well as more advanced methods such as UV-C wands and overnight Ozone sanitization.

UV-C Wands:  Light in the UltraViolet range (which we can’t see) is harmful for cells. It’s crazy potent right around 254 nm, which falls into what is called the UVC range. There are special handheld lights for this, that you can slowly move over items to sanitize them. They’re popular with pilots, for example, who want to sanitize their hotel bed “just in case.”

Ozone Sanitization: Ozone is basically 3 oxygen atoms smashed together. Ozone has been proven to kill up to 99% of viruses, bacteria, mold, etc. when those pathogens are exposed to sufficient levels of ozone (roughly 5 ppm). Not just airborne, but kills on any surface exposed to the Ozone in the air!

Ozone producing air cleaners will be turned on for three hours at nighttime (automatically with timers), to “blast” our showroom, to make sure every single surface gets sanitized every single night, automatically.

Mask Policy – Masks are the simplest and most effective way to keep our staff and customers as safe as possible. When both customers and employers wear a mask, the risk of viral transmission is GREATLY reduced.

Customers are expected to wear masks at both locations. We will have disposable plastic-wrapped masks available at our stores if you forget to bring one.  We thank you for your understanding!

FPC School of Music

Family Piano Co’s School of Music will begin a measured, cautious transition back to in-person lessons beginning June 6th.

In-person lesson slot availability will initially be limited and we thank all our students and families for their continued patience as we prioritize the safety of our students above all else.

FPC plans to proceed with an abundance of caution and will continue to closely monitor the local prevalence of Covid-19 so we can make well-informed decisions about slowly loosening certain safety precautions and continuing to expand the availability of in-person lessons in the upcoming weeks. All precautions taken by Family Piano Co are backed by the science and data.

All students returning for in-person lessons must agree to follow our safety precautions, including:

  • Washing hands immediately before their lesson time.
  • Temperature check immediately before their lesson time.
  • Mask wearing throughout the entirety of their lesson time.
  • Maintaining at least 6 feet of social distancing as often as possible
  • Students who show potential symptoms will have their in-person lesson cancelled and made up as a video lesson.

These same precautions will be taken by our entire teaching staff. Additional precautions include:

  • Plexiglass separating teacher and student
  • Two pianos/keyboards in designated piano lesson rooms to limit shared surface contact
  • Extensive sanitization of studios/common surfaces throughout the store. Bleach and alcohol solutions will be used along with UV-C wands and nightly Ozone sanitization treatment.
  • Lesson studio doors will be open for increased air flow when practical.

Please note that we initially will close our indoor waiting area to families, to be re-examined in the next few weeks. Weather permitting, we will have outdoor seating available.

Donna will be reaching out to students in the upcoming days and weeks to establish interest for in-person lessons. It is possible that time slots will have to be rescheduled in accordance to reduced capacity guidelines. In addition, students/families may be asked to disclose if they or anyone they live with has a high risk of exposure (for example, working in a crowded grocery store 8 hours a day) or a high-risk of Covid-19 complications. Disclosure of information is voluntary and will not disqualify any student for in-person lessons, rather it will just be one factor to take into consideration. Conversely, we will disclose to students if their teacher has a high risk of exposure to Covid-19.

Video lessons will continue as an option for all students throughout this transition and beyond. We thank all of our students and families for their continued understanding and support as we continue to pave the path forward for music education.

If you have further questions about in-person lessons and our safety precautions, please send Donna an email at [email protected] and she will reach out to you as soon as possible.

Temperature Checks for Employees and Students – Employees will have their temperatures checked before beginning each and every work shift. Our students will as well before in-person lessons.

Any employees showing any possible symptoms will be sent home immediately and will work from home until they present a negative test result for Covid-19.

Plexiglass – Plexiglass barriers have been installed at the check out areas of both locations, similar to what you see at grocery stores. They will also be in designated lesson rooms placed between the student and teacher. We will keep these up as long as we feel they are necessary, but we do plan on taking these down when reasonable.

Tunings & Service Appointments

Our goal is to make home tunings and other tech work as contactless and risk-free as possible! Masks will be required for our technicians for the entirety of the appointment. The technician will have their temperature taken before heading out for any appointment. Social distancing will be adhered to for the entirety of the appointment. We are requesting no cash payments through the month of June. Customers can call the store on their own phone and pay through credit card.

When reaching out to customers on our waiting list to schedule appointments, we will ask if anyone in your household has had a known potential exposure to Covid-19. We will also ask if you have any additional safety precautions you would like our technician to follow as well.

Please note that due to staffing considerations, we have very limited capacity for in-home service appointments. We appreciate your patience. All inquiries will be added to our waitlist and we will try to schedule you as soon as we can.
