To celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day, we are Turning Talk into Trees all April!
Basically we’ll be planting a tree for every person who reaches out to talk to us about pianos. And for every piano sold, we’ll plant 10 trees! And we’ll plant a tree for every social media share about this campaign, up to 2000 trees. Spread the word and help us plant a bunch of trees!
Why Talk into Trees?
While selling pianos is what keeps the lights on, Family Piano Co’s mission is to help elevate people’s piano playing experience — whether that’s:
- Helping you pick out your first digital piano
- Upgrading to a grand piano
- Trading in to something smaller that’ll fit in your new living space better
- Tuning up your existing piano, fixing a sticky key, regulating a piano to feel its best
- Answering questions about how to better maintain your instrument,
- Connecting you with piano moving companies for transporting your instrument locally (or even across the country!)
- Fixing your digital keyboard, trouble-shooting your player system
- Helping find your piano a new home.
We are best able to achieve our mission when we can talk to people and help answer their questions.
Our customers are so kind and considerate — in fact, sometimes, almost TOO kind and considerate.
Quite a few of our customers don’t want to call us and “waste our time” until they’re pretty much ready to purchase a specific piano. They struggle for weeks, months and sometimes years, wading through a ton of conflicting online research, affiliate-link blog posts, and every possible opinion that can be expressed.
Trying to do the entire piano purchasing process on one’s own can be very time-consuming, confusing, and frustrating! How much quicker could someone be playing their favorite songs, if they would’ve come to us sooner?
Ways to Have Trees Planted
So to encourage you to reach out to us and start the process, we’re excited to be able to partner with One Tree Planted in planting a tree for every person that reaches out to us! Here’s how it’ll work:
Direct Contact – if you talk to us about a piano during the month of April, we’ll plant one tree. If you bring your family of four to one of our showrooms to look at pianos, that will be 4 trees. For each person who reaches out via phone call, text message, live chat, direct social media message, or email, that will count as one tree. We will count each person a maximum of one time over the course of the month.
Direct Sale – if you choose to purchase an instrument during the month of April, we will plant 10 trees! We will plant 10 trees for EVERY instrument purchased during the month of April – digital, upright, grand, new or used. So if you bring 4 people in to look at pianos and then buy an instrument, it’ll be a total of 14 trees (4 conversations + 10 for a purchase).
Spread the Word – if you share information about this campaign anywhere on social media or the internet, we will plant a tree, up to 2,000 trees! That said, we are mere humans, so please either tag us and/or email a screenshot of it to [email protected], so we can make sure to count each share!
Piano Tunings – if you use our awesome self-booking tool for scheduling a tuning during the month of April, that will count as a tree as well, even if you don’t actually talk to us (cause you will during the tuning 😊). You can also book a tuning by calling or texting our Service Manager Andrew at 847-574-2626. We will plant one tree for each piano tuning booked during the month of April, even if the tuning actually takes place later.
Rules & Restrictions
- To keep count, we made a spreadsheet, where we’ll keep track of each person who has conversed with us, made a purchase, and/or spread the word. We’ll keep a counter on this blog post and frequently update it, to keep all of you informed (and excited!).
- If it seems that follow-up conversations would be helpful & appropriate in any context, we’ll ask permission upfront. We make sure to never spam or annoy anyone.
- Please note that it’ll be ridiculously difficult to keep track of all COMMENTS all over the internet, so we’re not planting one tree per internet comment. Reach out and start a conversation with us! Similarly, we have quite a few people who wander through our locations, especially at Golf Mill Mall, who never even talk to us, who are “just looking” – if they don’t fill out a brief Google Form, we can’t count them.
- This is a new campaign for us – we may update these rules at any time, to help clarify any ambiguity or set any necessary boundaries. We reserve the right to show discretion in who we count – if someone comes up with some way of spamming us or something that’s not in the spirit of this campaign, we reserve the right to ignore those folks.
- This campaign runs from April 1st to April 30th, 2024.
About One Tree Planted
We’re excited about this partnership with One Tree Planted. They’ve planted over 100 million trees in the last 2 years! They have a Platinum certification from Guidestar and 4 out of 4 stars from Charity Navigator. From their website:

Since One Tree Planted runs programs around the world, we are planning for about 50% of the trees from us to be planted here in the US and about 50% planted elsewhere globally, where they’re most beneficial.

We think the best way of learning about pianos is trying out a bunch of them, in person. We have two showrooms:
- Golf Mill Mall in Niles IL — Best Entrances are by Ulta Beauty or AMC Theatres; we’re in the middle of the mall. Open 12:00 to 6:00 pm. Open EVERYDAY Monday through Sunday.
- Original Waukegan Showroom — 114 S Genesee, Waukegan IL 60085. Open 12:00 to 6:00 pm, Thursday through Monday. By Appointment on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please note: we’re going to respond to everyone as quickly as we can. If a ton of people reach out (which is a good problem to have!) and/or we get a bunch of complicated questions, this may unfortunately slow down our response time.
Family Piano Wants to Help!
We pride ourselves on helping people make a comfortable, confident, and educated decision, in a no-pressure environment. We’re not going to hypnotize you into buying our biggest, most expensive piano – in fact, we encourage you to try out pianos in our competitors’ stores. We encourage you to fact-check us and do your own research. We encourage you to bring in your piano technicians and teachers to inspect our pianos before you make a final decision. We encourage you to chat with us, even if you think it’s unlikely you’ll end up making a purchase with us anytime soon. Our goal is to be helpful!
If you’re thinking about getting a piano, here’s our typical process: when you come in, we’ll ask some basic questions on what you’re looking for, so we’re in the right ballpark. We’ll then play a wide variety of options, so you can get a sense of the different ways that brand, size, age, condition, features, etc affect your playing experience. This way, you can form your OWN first-hand opinion about the instrument that’s going into YOUR home. We’ll explain some key concepts and talk through any concerns you may have – there are NO dumb questions! Then, we’ll focus on your 2-5 favorite instruments and deep-dive into the specifics, so you have a deep understanding of final contenders. Then, usually one becomes a clear favorite, and we can work through the logistics of dollars, deliveries, etc. Our goal is to help make the whole process as smooth as possible, while empowering you to ask all the questions and make a decision you can feel great about.
